The Ekurhuleni municipality has decided to give itself the day off on Monday.

“To avoid the disruption of service delivery and the subsequent low turnout at the service points April 30, 2012, has been declared a municipal holiday,” said spokesman Justice Mohale on Wednesday.

“The day will automatically be deducted from employees' annual leave.”

Mohale said the municipality took into consideration that Monday fell between two national holidays (April 27 and May 1), and a high number of employees had applied for leave on the day.

“Administrative offices, libraries, selected rates halls, pay points, non-essential and non-emergency services will not be operational on the day,” Mohale said. Libraries would also be closed on Saturday, April 28.

Mohale, however, said emergency services, water and electricity services, and the manning of some pay points would not be affected by the closure. – Sapa
