A fire at a chemical factory in Turffontein, south of Johannesburg on Saturday morning was being kept under control, Johannesburg Emergency Services said.

Spokesman Neil Roy said the fire started at the factory's outside transformer around 6am on Saturday.

“The fire was well alight but is under control. We are still on the scene.”

He said the fire was contained before any part of the factory was damaged.

No injuries were reported. - Sapa
