Johannesburg - A pregnant woman, three girls and a pedestrian were among five people injured when two cars collided head-on in Benoni, Gauteng, on Sunday, paramedics said.

One of the cars struck a pedestrian after the collision, at the intersection of Springs and Kingsway roads shortly after 3pm, Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said. The man was seriously injured.

Three young girls and the pregnant woman, who were in one of the cars, were seriously injured.

Another man, who was in one of the cars, was in a critical condition.

The cause of the accident was not yet known. - Sapa
