Johannesburg – Renowned South African racing driver Gugu Zulu was laid to rest on Thursday more than a week after he died while trying to summit Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

The 38-year-old sportsman was buried at Heroes Acre in West Park Cemetery in Johannesburg. His grave was situated next to that of football legend John “shoes” Moshoeu, Top Billing presenter Simba Mhere, and hip-hop artist Flabba.

Zulu’s wife Letshogo sat under a tent erected at the graveside with the rest of the family and cried while her husband was being buried.

A tombstone, which contained words written in braille, was unveiled at the end of the burial. The design of the stone resembles a structure found at Uhuru Peak in Tanzania. There was a also a picture of a bicycle standing next to the structure.
