Johannesburg - A man was killed when a refuse truck overturned and fell on him in Roodepoort, Gauteng paramedics said on Tuesday.

“Paramedics could only see a small part of the man showing from underneath the truck, but it was confirmed that he had not survived his injuries,” ER24 spokeswoman Vanessa Jackson said.

The man was on the back of the truck going to the dumping site when it overturned.

“It appears that one of the men travelling on the back part (loading bin) of the truck fell off before the truck landed on its side, on top of him,” Jackson said.

A heavy-duty crane was used to lift the truck from the man's body.

“The driver and another passenger who were travelling in the cabin managed to climb free by themselves,” said Jackson. - Sapa
