No Easter fatalities on N4: TRAC

Johannesburg - No road deaths were reported on the N4 toll route from Pretoria to Mozambique over the Easter holidays, Trans African Concessions (TRAC) said on Tuesday.

“Trans African Concessions is thrilled to announce that for the second consecutive year no fatalities occurred on the section of the N4 that we manage over the Easter holidays”, said spokeswoman Solange Soares-Nicholson.

“Although this was one of the busiest Easters on the N4 and despite a major spike in traffic volumes, only 18 (three Gauteng, 12 Highveld, three Lowveld) non-fatal accidents occurred along the 570km route between April 17 and April 21.”

She said one of the key contributors to keeping the N4 fatality free this Easter was the TRAC Easter rescue and road safety campaign.

“This annual project saw the bulk of Mpumalanga Emergency Services and TRAC assist teams stationed at Middleburg Shell Ultra City and smaller units deployed to strategic points on the N4,” said Soares-Nicholson.

“This initiative went a long way in promoting road safety as it boosted visibility of authorities and allowed road users to connect with these individuals and teams and gain valuable information and knowledge on road regulations and safety.”
