Johannesburg - A woman was killed and six other people were injured early Friday morning when a bakkie and light motor vehicle collided head-on on the R510, about 3km outside of Carletonville.

ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics received an  emergency call at midnight and immediately responded.

"Upon arrival, paramedics found both the bakkie and light motor vehicle on opposite sides of the road. The light motor vehicle’s engine was found lying in the veld some distance away," said Meiring.

"Upon closer inspection, paramedics found the body of a man lying outside of the bakkie. Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to his multiple injuries. Nothing more could be done for him and he was declared dead."

Meiring said paramedics attended to an injured woman from the bakkie and five other people from the light motor vehicle.

"Paramedics discovered that two were in a critical condition, while the remaining three had sustained only minor injuries."

Local authorities were on the scene investigating the cause of the crash..
