Johannesburg - Nine people, including a man going 202km/h in a VW Golf, were arrested for speeding on the N12 in Benoni on Sunday, Ekurhuleni metro police said.

The 33-year-old man driving the VW Golf claimed he was on his way to drop somebody off, spokesman Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago said in a statement.

The road has a speed limit of 120km/h.

“The rest of the risk-takers clocked speeds of between 184 and 161km/h,” Kgasago said.

All nine drivers were charged with reckless or negligent driving and released on bail of between R500 and R1000.

They were expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate's Court soon.
