Johannesburg - Gauteng residents have been warned to watch for severe thunderstorms across the province on Monday.

“Expect strong winds and hail,” SA Weather forecaster Victoria Nurse told The Star on morning.

“There is no warning for flash flooding because for that, we need a significant amount of heavy rains and it has been quite dry.

“The watch has also been extended into the eastern parts of North West and the north-eastern parts of the Free State,” Nurse said.

Nurse said thundershowers were expected to continue into the week.

“A 30 percent chance of afternoon thundershowers is expected across Gauteng all week, with a 60 percent chance of showers expected as we move into Saturday and Sunday,” she said.

Nurse said temperatures would remain warm over the province with the northern parts of Gauteng moving into the hot category by Thursday.

“But there is no heatwave expected for the next seven days.

“We’re looking at temperatures staying in and around the early thirties for the week,” she said.
