Johannesburg - A police officer, armed and in full uniform, is one of house music DJ Black Coffee’s fans who took up his dance challenge.

Since the video was posted on Facebook at the weekend, it has spread all over social media, with many people applauding the charismatic officer’s dance moves.

The video, part of the popular #WeDanceAgain Challenge dominating social media, has caught the attention of the renowned DJ, whose real name is Nathi Maphumulo.

He has shared it with his more than 115 000 followers on Instagram. It has become a hit and been shared on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

It features the charismatic SAPS officer dancing alongside a Transnet official in a garden while DJ Black Coffee and Nakhane Toure’s new single We Dance Again blasts in the background. Many of the shared videos are captioned “SAPS vs Transnet”.

The pair initially share the spotlight and strut their dance moves in unison while being filmed. But then the police officer takes the “dance floor” solo and lets rip with thrusts, gyrations and twerks that win people’s hearts.

But not everyone was moved by his natural rhythm. Some lambasted him for taking part in the challenge while on the clock.

@kondi_mash wrote on Instagram: “And this is why it takes forever for the cops to come.”

Others defended the officer, saying he was having harmless fun and that he might have been off the clock.

@vuvunots posted: “Argh ppl need to chill. Dont assume! He could’ve been on his way to work or from work.”

The idea for the challenge started when European DJ Fuki Flex posted a video of himself on Instagram, dancing along to We Dance Again and inviting others to do the same using the hasthtag #WeDanceAgainChallenge.

Since it was started about two months ago, several people throughout the world have taken to social media as part of the initiative, including DJ Black Coffee.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-General Solomon Makgale said he would comment once he had seen the video.
