Scottburgh - A woman died and eight other people were injured when a minibus taxi, an SUV, and a car collided on the N2 south-bound in Scottburgh, KwaZulu-Natal, on Friday afternoon, paramedics said.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene after 3pm and found the taxi in the emergency lane while the other two vehicles were on the centre median, ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said.

“All three vehicles had sustained a large amount of damage in the collision. On assessment, paramedics found that a woman lay in the passenger seat of the SUV, motionless. Unfortunately, the woman had already succumbed to her multiple, fatal injuries. Nothing more could be done for the patient and she was declared dead on the scene.”

On further assessment, paramedics found that two other patients from the SUV, four from the car, and two from the taxi had been injured. Paramedics treated all the patients for various injuries and transported them to various hospitals in the area for further treatment.

“Authorities had to close one lane of the highway, causing traffic congestion. The details surrounding the collision are subject to the investigation of local authorities,” Meiring said.
