Durban - About 80 people have been injured after a bus rear-ended another bus on the Mangosuthu Highway in Umlazi in KwaZulu Natal, ER24 paramedics said on Wednesday.

ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said that paramedics, along with various other emergency services, arrived on the scene and found the two buses still wedged together on the side of the road.

“Numerous occupants were found seated on the side of the road while some occupants were found climbing out of the vehicle.”

According to Meiring, an area was set up so paramedics could assess and treat the patients.

“Upon assessment, paramedics found that approximately 80 people had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.”

Paramedics treated the patients and thereafter transported them to various hospitals for further treatment.

“Fortunately, no serious or fatal injuries were reported,” Meiring added.

He said the cause of the collision was not immediately known but local authorities were on scene for further investigation.
