Johannesburg - Three people were treated for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at the Pavillion shopping centre in Durban, the city's fire department said on Sunday.

“The three were treated by ER24 paramedics and two of them were taken to hospital,” said divisional commander Justin Bateman.

He said an electrical substation was found burning in a utility room at about 9pm on Saturday.

“We suspect it was an electrical fault.”

Bateman said the centre was evacuated swiftly and it was unclear if it had re-opened on Sunday.

Centre management was not immediately available for comment. - Sapa
