Five family members, including a two-year-old and an eight-year-old boy, were coldly shot in the head by four balaclava-clad men near the Shongweni Dam Reserve today.

During the men’s rampage through the family’s compound, another man was killed, a pregnant woman was wounded and her teenager sister raped in front of her parents by the attackers.

Ngenzeni Nyanda, 40, her daughter Nokuthula, 22, Nokuthula’s son Talente, 2, and Nyanda’s grandson Mthobisi, 8 were shot in the head.

Nyanda’s son Thabani, 18, managed to escape from the house but was tracked down to a nearby dwelling and shot.

The gunmen then went to another home in the compound where they shot a man, a pregnant woman and raped her 13-year-old sister, a senior police investigator at the scene said this morning.

The suspects are believed to be between 20 and 30 years old.

The woman who survived the carnage was taken to hospital in a critical condition and her sister, who was raped, was receiving medical attention. - Daily News
