KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested a Nongoma man for allegedly beating his brother to death and then hurriedly arranging a funeral to conceal the crime.

“It is believed that he brutally assaulted his brother, who later died of internal injuries,” Lieutenant Colonel Thembeka Mbele said on Thursday.

The man allegedly strangled Majika Ndebele in Nongoma with a cord in November, and kicked him in the chest. He died a few days later.

“Ndebele’s brother hurriedly organised a funeral and paid for the expenses. It is believed that he was trying to make sure that the cause of the man’s death was not established.”

Police were looking at the possibility of exhuming Ndebele’s body to establish the exact cause of his death.

The accused was expected to appear in Nongoma Magistrate’s Court on Friday. - Sapa
