Durban - Thoshan Panday owns a helicopter, a Ferrari, a multimillion-rand mansion and a bed and breakfast businesses.

He used to be an insurance broker before he acquired massive wealth.

He attempted to bribe Major-General Johan Booysen, the then head of the Hawks in KwaZulu-Natal, with R1.3m in cash.

In papers filed in the Durban High Court in September, the state claimed Panday had been paid R44m since October 2009 by the SAPS for accommodation provided to police officers.

Before he became an insurance broker, Panday and his brother Visham of Somerset Park, Umhlanga, ran Panday’s Tiling Contractors.

Before the siblings moved to Durban they ran a company in Pietermaritzburg which sold Porsches, Lamborghinis and other expensive cars.

Thoshan’s mansion at Blenheim Court, Umhlanga Ridge, spans some 8 000 square metres.

His helicopter is parked at the property, worth more than R14m.

Both brothers also own the multimillion Palm Boulevard complex in Aurora Drive, Umhlanga Ridge.

Thoshan has a share in Kasseev Traders which supplies the SAPS with firearms, ammunition, etcetera.
