Durban – Two children died and several others were injured, some critically, when a vehicle transporting them overturned on the R617 in Howick, KwaZulu-Natal, on Thursday, ER24 reported.

It is believed that the driver lost control of the vehicle and rolled down an embankment.

“When ER24 paramedics and other services arrived on scene they found children, several of them who were ejected from the vehicle and believed to be between the ages of four and seven, lying all over the scene,” ER24 said in a statement. “Paramedics assessed the children. Unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do for two of the children. They were declared dead.”

Three other children sustained critical injuries while others sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious.

The driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries. They were all treated and transported to various hospitals.

It is understood that the driver was transporting children home from several schools in the area.

The exact cause of the incident was unknown, however authorities were on scene to investigate.
