Durban - As the Durban University of Technology (DUT) reopened on 26 September 2016, students in support of the #FeesMustFall campaign embarked on a mass action protest across the DUT campuses in the Durban CBD.

While speaking to journalists an EFF member says they are proud that protesters at the University of KwaZulu-Natal's Pietermaritzburg campus set fire to buildings.

One student is heard on camera saying that students want the free education which he says Nelson Mandela promised in 1994.

At the ML Sultan campus, protesters reportedly tried to remove students from lectures.

A student leader has also claimed that non-students were participating in the protest action.

The institution subsequently cancelled the academic programme at all its campuses.
