The killing of a Montclair woman has raised more questions than answers. Shenaaz Sewnarain, 40, was found shot dead two Fridays ago in a hired car abandoned in Folweni, near Amanzimtoti.

Her husband, Rajive Sewnarain, had been driving the vehicle because their own car had been riddled with bullets from a previous attack on November 12.

It is alleged on that occasion a beggar at a stop street shot at the couple. Shenaaz was hit in the upper body, but survived, while her husband was unharmed.

This week the widower was questioned by police at the Prospecton Organised Crime unit. Police said that Rajive Sewnarain accompanied them to the scene of the crime.

Sewnarain declined to speak to the Tribune, saying what happened had been published in sister newspaper Post.

It was reported that the Sewnarains’ children, Srikesh and Srivastha, said their mother had reluctantly gone out to buy supper and had called home several times.

The children said they became worried when their parents did not return, after Shenaaz had called.

Sewnarain apparently told his children they had been hijacked on their way home.

He said the hijackers had shot him in the arm because they said he drove recklessly and they then threw him out of the vehicle. He ran after the car until he fainted.

Sewnarain, who said he was dumped in Folweni, was found by two men who then took him to someone where he phoned police and his family to alert them of what had happened.

He was later taken to hospital.

Police spokesman Colonel Jay Naicker said yesterday the police were awaiting key evidence to clarify things before making an arrest.- Sunday Tribune
