Johannesburg - Two people have died following the crash of a light aircraft a few kilometres outside Lephalale in Limpopo province, emergency services said on Monday.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the crash occurred on Sunday night.

“Paramedics arrived on scene and found the wreckage of the aircraft in a bush. It had crashed and caught alight.”

It is understood that members of the local community got together to douse the fire, he said.

“Close by to the wreckage lay two bodies.”

Meiring said the two people had succumbed due to the severe injuries sustained.

The exact cause of the incident was unknown.

Authorities were on scene to investigate.
