A domestic worker, who worked for a wealthy Durban family, told the High Court on Wednesday she conspired with a former gardener to murder millionaire businessman Akrum Rajab for R75 000.

Thandi Sibisi was testifying in the trial of a relative, Abednego Dumisani Sibisi, 30, of Sydenham, who is charged with the murder.

Rajab was stabbed at his home on May 2 1997.

Thandi Sibisi has turned state witness against Abednego Sibisi, who "was like a brother to me".

The court will grant her indemnity from prosecution only if it finds she has told the truth.

Sibisi told the court on Wednesday that she had been approached by a member of the Rajab family to murder the businessman.

She approached the gardener to help in the murder and he agreed. She saw Sibisi walk into the house and when she saw the knife in his hand, she screamed. She said Sibisi ran towards Rajab.

She told the court she did not get the money promised to her.

Counsel for Abednego Sibisi told her that on the day of the attack, his client had spent the entire day with his girlfriend. She said this was untrue.
