Johannesburg - A pilot has been critically injured after a light aircraft crashed on the N4 near Witbank, the SABC reported on Sunday.

The plane had an engine failure and hit power cables, Trans African Concessions, which runs the N4 toll route, spokeswoman Anita Heyl told the broadcaster.

The pilot was taken to Kosmos Private Hospital.

Meanwhile, in Bronkhorstspruit, near Pretoria, another plane made an emergency landing on a road because of mechanical problems, the SABC reported.

Tshwane metro policeman Isaac Mahamba said the two occupants were unhurt.

The owner of a nearby plot towed the aircraft onto his property. - Sapa
