Johannesburg - The National Freedom Party thanked former president Nelson Mandela on Friday for his contribution to the liberation of the country.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing away of (former) president Nelson Mandela,” NFP leader Zanele KaMagwaza-Msibi said in a statement.

“He dedicated his whole life towards the struggle and was even prepared to lay (down) his own life for our country to be free from the bondages of oppression.”

The NFP sent its condolence to the Mandela family, the country, and the world.

“He was the symbol of hope and unity and he single-handedly transformed our country to what it is today, and for that we will always be indebted to him.”

KaMagwaza-Msibi said the country would always be indebted to Mandela.
