Newly-elected ANC treasurer-general Zweli Mkhize will conduct a review of outstanding debts owed by the party to service providers, the ANC said on Saturday.

“The new treasurer is not familiar with all of the complaints. He has requested to be taken through claims and assess what is outstanding,” ANC spokesman Keith Khoza told Sapa.

Once a review was done, the party would begin organising payment to the providers.

The Saturday Star reported that a businessman was complaining that he is owed money by the ANC for services rendered.

Kevin Hughes, who owns a small business, told the newspaper that the party owed him over R500 000 for electrical services provided during the ANC's centenary celebrations last year.

Hughes said a month before the January event, he was enlisted by events company VWV to provide his services.

Hughes said that while he was paid a deposit of R434 922 he is still owed R533 240.

He has had to pay staff and suppliers from his own funds to keep a “good track record” for his business.

Khoza said businesspeople like Hughes should contact the new treasurer-general and alert his office if they were owed money by the party. -Sapa
