Drowned school boys identified

Rustenburg – Three schoolboys who drowned during a school camp near Rustenburg will be buried this weekend, the North West education department said on Wednesday.

Spokesperson Elias Malindi said Rebaone Rabolefa Ntsi, 15, a grade nine pupil, Letlhogonolo Ramushu, 16, a grade eight pupil, and Neo Nkawane, 17, a grade 10 learner from Rustenburg Technical High School died when a canoe they were rowing tipped over during their land service camp at Bergheim Camp Site, near Rustenburg on Saturday.

Ramushu’s funeral service would be held at Rametse Street in Tlhabane near Rustenburg at 6am on Saturday and proceed to the Anglican Church near Fern Crest Hospital at 07h45.

Ntsi would be laid to rest in Mmukubyane near Ngobi in the Moretetele area after the service which would start at 7am on Saturday, while Nkwane’s funeral service would be held at Geelhout Park in Rustenburg at 06h30 and proceed to the Lutheran Church at 7am on the same day.

Education and Sport Development MEC Maphefo Matsemela expressed her sadness about the tragic incident.

“As a department we are shocked and saddened by the death of these learners, we would like to express our deepest and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, may they take comfort in the arms of our God”, she said.
