Rustenburg – Senior members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) visited the family of slain Rustenburg councillor Moss Phakoe on Thursday.

The EFF’s general secretary Godrich Gardee, along with spokesman Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, paid the family a courtesy visit.

“Our hearts are heavy and bleeding. Moss Phakoe was not the last person to die suspiciously in South Africa. There have been such deaths in Mpumalanga [Jimmy Mohlala] and many more. North West need to be liberated by the EFF,” Gardee said.

“We are not here to ask for votes but to pay our respect to the family. The commander-in-chief [Julius Malema] will pay his respect to the family tomorrow (Friday),” said Gardee.

He said the EFF would speak out against corruption at its second anniversary rally in Olympia Park Stadium in Rustenburg on Saturday.

Phakoe was shot dead at his Rustenburg Noord home in March 2009 after he had handed a dossier detailing corruption in the municipality to high-ranking ANC officials, including secretary general Gwede Mantashe, President Jacob Zuma and former co-operative governance minister Sicelo Shiceka.
