North West - A man is in a serious condition after he was bitten by a puff adder in the Roodraai area in the North West, paramedics said on Tuesday.

The snake was found near the man's home on Monday afternoon, said Netcare 911 spokeswoman Santi Steinmann.

“When the community tried to catch it it bit the man,” she said.

Paramedics stabilised the 45-year-old man on scene before transporting him to hospital.

The snake was killed by people in the area.
