Kimberley - Two police officers were shot dead during an apparent armed robbery at the Community Service Centre in Koffiefontein, a small mining town in the Free State.

The bodies of constables Obert Boitumelo Mekoa and  Mzonani David Manjo, both 32 years old, were discovered on Thursday morning when their colleagues returned from their evening patrol.

Mekoa was shot once in the head while Manjo was shot in the back and in the head.

Free State Police spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi Makhele said that it appears as if they were killed by a person or a group of people who attacked the Community Service Centre.
