The Western Cape ANC has slammed the ruling DA’s decision to change the colours in the province’s coat of arms.

The new coat of arms is blue, whereas the old one featured a range of colours. Blue is the DA’s main colour – and the ANC believes the alterations are no coincidence.

ANC Western Cape leader Lynne Brown said the change was “a disgrace”.

“The DA self-righteously sees no separation between the party and state. It is shameful.

“It is shocking that the legislature has dumped the SA flag colours in its logo and replaced it with the DA’s distinctive blue and white colours. This was done without any consultation and (is) against the letter and spirit of our democracy.

“The DA has violated the strong principles of separation between party and state, as well as the executive and legislature,” Brown said today.

The provincial government’s head of communications Nick Clelland-Stokes denied that the change was about rebranding.

“We are creating one corporate identity for the Western Cape,” he said. - Cape Argus
