Cape Town - An evangelist from Seawinds, who tried to “anoint” a woman with his penis, has been sentenced to 80 hours of community service.

Frederick Cornelius Sackanary, 47, appeared in the Muizenberg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on a sexual assault charge.

He admitted guilt and was instructed to complete his community service before his next court appearance on 29 August.

The victim, a 25-year-old mother, says he visited her at her home in November last year to pray for her.

But instead of praying, he tried to persuade her to allow him to anoint her by putting oil on his penis and then penetrate her.

She refused and told to police.

Sackanary was expected to plea on Tuesday, but during court proceedings it was revealed that after consultation with the victim, it was decided to settle the matter outside of the criminal justice system and the accused admitted guilt.

It is not clear exactly what Sackanary will be doing as community service.

Speaking outside court, the victim and her family tell the Daily Voice the case has been draining and they are unhappy with the “light” punishment.

“Coming to court is very draining and every time I have to take off work. As much as I am happy that it’s close to an end, I still don’t feel satisfied,” says the victim.

The family says they are disappointed and do not believe that community service is enough.

Sackanary raced out of court after his sentencing, and went home to his house in Swift Street in a taxi.

When the Daily Voice asked him for comment, he said: “No comment and I am not a pastor.”
