Cape Town - Approval to stage a 50 000-strong protest outside GrandWest Casino when pop star and producer Pharrell Williams takes to the stage this year has not yet been granted.

Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Against Israel in South Africa (BDS), which threatened the protest after the announcement that Woolworths was behind bringing the artist to the country, refused to continue with a meeting to discuss the application on Wednesday, accusing the city of being “biased towards the venue’s management”.

BDS has been pressurising Woolworths since it emerged the company was still importing products from Israel.

The city said in the meeting that representatives from the city, BDS and GrandWest Casino met to discuss the application for the protest. The meeting has been postponed to August 4.
