About 150 people blocked roads with burning tyres near Lansdowne in Cape Town on Monday morning, Western Cape police said.

“They were rioting about housing. The situation is still tense but under control. No rubber bullets have been fired,” Warrant Officer November Filander said.

The protest at the Vlei informal settlement started at 4am. Water cannons were used to disperse the crowd, as they had been throwing stones at police. – Sapa
