When charity and gaming come together...

Cape Town - I know what you are thinking. Another gaming event, another day filled with people complaining about lag.

While there will probably be some of that, this event is going to be slightly different. Gaming4Charity will bring you the #CharityEnduro event.

This event aims to firstly, unite the Cape Town gaming community and secondly, you get to kick your friend’s behind at Halo while donating to a feeding scheme. When was the last time you donated to a charity? *Long pause of awkward silence*. That’s what I thought...

There is a game for every type of gamer. Choose from casual gaming, eSports, first-person shooter and mobile gaming. You can also kick it old-school with arcade games. Come on, you know you want to revisit those. Did I mention that there is also a 100-seat LAN? Well, now you know.

What is tournament without prizes? (I hope you were not expecting a witty reponse to that rhetoric.) Spot prizes can be won as well as merchandise and money. Money that can be used to watch Batman vs Superman at the IMAX on opening night.

Now let’s talk about Heavenly Promise. Heavenly Promise is the non-profit organisation you will be helping should you decide to go to Grand West this weekend. Their objective? To help people in disadvantaged communities and feed children in Delft and surrounding areas. If you aren’t much of a gamer yourself, tag along and do it for kids.

The Sowing the Seed feeding project is a feeding scheme that focuses on filling the stomachs of children in Delft and Happy Valley. Member of the Sowing the Seed project Besternay Cristallides said ‘It is my vision dream for the community’. We all have a dream. Yours might be different to mine, but it’s there. Only we know how badly we want that dream to be a reality.

So if you want to do some good in the world of dark souls, get your game on at Grand West on March 5 and March 6. Tickets start at R100. While gaming, there will be that wonderful thought at the back of your mind that you will be feeding a hungry child. Level cleared! Well, your conscience levels anyway...
