Johannesburg - Wits University apologised on Thursday after an obituary it had prepared for former president Nelson Mandela became becoming publicly available on Google's search engine.
Wits extended its sincerest apologies to Mandela's family, friends, fellow South Africans and global citizens for the error, university spokeswoman Shirona Patel said in a statement.
“The university had prepared a statement which was hidden on its systems. However, a technical error made this available via the search function on Google. At no stage did the university issue this statement or publish it on its website.”
Wits regretted the mishap, would take the necessary steps to correct the error and ensure those responsible were held accountable. - Sapa
