‘We’re glad to see Malema go’Comment on this story
Johannesburg - Fireworks were set off in Julius Malema's hometown of Seshego on Wednesday night by people glad to see him go.
About 100 people gathered at the Masakaneng Shopping Centre to celebrate the expulsion of the African National Congress Youth League chief by letting off firecrackers, a Sapa correspondent said from the scene.
Meanwhile, a small and subdued group of Malema's supporters gathered outside his grandmother's house. Five police vehicles were stationed outside the premises.
Seshego, in Limpopo, has been divided over Malema.
The ANC’s National Disciplinary Committee of Appeal announced on Tuesday night that it had dismissed his appeal against his expulsion for sowing division in the party and for bringing it into disrepute.
He was earlier found to have done so by unfavourably comparing the leadership style of President Jacob Zuma to that of former president Thabo Mbeki, and for remarks on bringing about regime change in Botswana. - Sapa
