Cape Town - National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete has, "following further consultations with political parties in parliament and with the executive", decided to change the date for the debate on the motion of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma from August 3 to August 8, parliament said on Sunday.

"There was an oversight during the initial consultations and determination of the originally announced date, which overlooked the fact that a Cabinet lekgotla had already been set for that week," parliament said in a statement.

The deadline for political parties to submit their views regarding their preferred means of voting on this particular motion - either by secret or open ballot - remained July 14.

Mbete would make her decision regarding the "appropriate voting procedure" before the scheduled debate on August 8.
