Franita Swart was ecstatic. She advertised as much on Facebook, saying she was going to marry “the most wonderful guy in the world that fits me perfectly”.

On Thursday, however, her body was found on a footpath close to Mayles Lane, Knowle in Hampshire in the UK.

Although the British police have ordered a post mortem be conducted, no crime is suspected.

Swart, believed to be a South African expatriate, had just announced on her Facebook page that her wedding was off and had changed her relationship status from “in a relationship” to “single”.

She was asked by a friend on Facebook: “I thought u were getting married?” to which she replied: “Yip! Me too! He is not sure anymore. What can I say?”

Swart, who was due to marry on April 23, had previously told friends of her love for her “husband-to-be”.

And she told him: “I will love you forever and ever.”

A day after her disappearance the Hampshire police asked for help with finding Swart, who disappeared from Knowle Village on Wednesday between 12.45pm and 6pm.

A day later, Neil Miller, from Hampshire Constabulary, made the announcement.

“Police have discovered the body of a woman on a footpath close to Mayles Lane, Knowle today.”

“The body was discovered, by officers conducting the search for missing woman Franita Swart, at about 12.10pm.”

“It is believed she had been visiting the village for a few days and had travelled to the area from London,” said Miller.

“A formal identification has yet to be carried out, but the police have suspended the search for Franita Swart at this time. The death is not being treated as suspicious.”

“A post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death will take place in due course.”

Following her engagement last year Swart wrote on Facebook that she was smitten.

She also wrote about her wedding dress appointment and how she had “so many things to be excited about”.

It all changed this week. Swart wrote on Facebook that she was clueless as to why her fiancé had called off the wedding – and then she died. - Saturday Star
