Gonzalez smiles after arrest in MexicoComment on this story
Mexico City - Mexican police captured the suspected leader of the La Resistencia drug gang, who grinned and gave the thumbs up when he was paraded in handcuffs before television cameras on Wednesday.
Ramiro Pozos Gonzalez, known as “El Molca”, was arrested by federal police on Tuesday in Metepec, a town in the central state of Mexico. The public security ministry said he was linked to drug trafficking and the murders of rivals.
Pozos Gonzalez, 42, smiled broadly as two masked police officers brought him out at a press conference, where authorities displayed a shiny gold-plated AK-47 that was seized during his arrest.
Police also seized bullets, two clips, communications equipment, a bag with a substance resembling cocaine and a jar with what appeared to be marijuana, the public security ministry said in a statement.
La Resistencia (The Resistance) has been fighting the Jalisco Nueva Generacion cartel for control of the drug trade in the western state of Jalisco, the statement said. - Sapa-AFP
