Belgian paedophile killer Marc Dutroux is due to appear in court in February after asking to be released from prison wearing an electronic surveillance tag, media reported on Thursday.
Dutroux would appear in court on February 4, along with parents of his victims, the daily Sudpresse reported. State prosecutors and prison officials had reportedly recommended against his release, which would legally be possible from April 2013.
The 55-year-old was sentenced in 2004 to life in prison for kidnapping six girls in the 1990s, raping and confining them in a dungeon-like cellar. Four died.
His ex-wife and accomplice Michelle Martin was released in July after serving 16 years of a 30-year sentence for having helped Dutroux. She lives in a convent near the city of Namur. - Sapa-dpa
