Singapore - A computer engineer was sentenced to one year's jail and three strokes of the cane for molesting a sleeping woman passenger sitting next to him aboard a Singapore Airlines flight, it was reported on Wednesday.
Swarup Das, 27, of India, was found guilty by a Singaporean district court of touching the groin of the 32-year-old woman, who had boarded the Singapore-bound September 8 flight in San Francisco, The Straits Times daily said.
The woman said she awakened when she felt Swarup's right hand resting on her groin. Thinking it was an accident, she lifted his hand and pushed it back, only to wake up to his intimate groping a second time about 30 minutes later.
She again flung his hand away and, together with a female travelling companion, asked to be transferred to seats usually reserved for cabin crew, the court heard. - Sapa-DPA
