Romanian doctors say a woman weighing 528 pounds (240 kilogrammes) has given birth through Cesarean section to a healthy baby.
Bucharest University Emergency Hospital says 25-year-old Victoria Lacatus gave birth on Thursday to a girl weighing 2.9 kilogrammes (6.4 pounds). She is the heaviest woman known to have given birth in Romania.
Spokesperson Bogdan Popescu says the mother is being carefully monitored for post-surgery complications because she is morbidly obese.
Lacatus was transported from her village in southern Romania to Bucharest because the local city hospital didn't have any beds that could bear her weight. - Sapa-AP
