Moscow - UK Independence Party acting leader Nigel Farage could "do a great job" as UK Ambassador to the United States, US President-elect Donald Trump says.

"Many people would like to see @Nigel_Farage represent Great Britain as their Ambassador to the United States. He would do a great job!" Trump said on his Twitter account on Monday.

On November 8, Trump beat his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in the US presidential elections, securing at least 290 electoral votes despite many analysts and opinion polls predicting his defeat.

Trump's inauguration will be held on January 20, 2017.

Farage, who advocated for Brexit, welcomed the news of Trump's victory, calling it and Brexit the "two big political revolutions" of 2016.

Many pollsters and bookmakers failed to predict the result of the Brexit referendum in the United Kingdom in June.
