A French court on Friday ordered a news website to remove secret recordings of former president Nicolas Sarkozy made when he was still in office.
Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy took legal action after Atlantico.fr published extracts from hundreds of hours of recordings made by one of Sarkozy's former top advisors, Patrick Buisson, with a hidden dictaphone.
The court ruled that Buisson had violated their privacy. Atlantico last week published four extracts of conversations dating to February 2011.
Bruni-Sarkozy was heard on one recording teasing Sarkozy about being the main breadwinner in the family. Atlantico had already removed that file at her demand.
The other conversations, which Buisson is believed to have recorded for historical purposes, related to a cabinet reshuffle. - Sapa-dpa
