Pretoria - Beautiful, expensive and fast cars stole the show at the Extreme Festival at the Zwartkop raceway in Centurion on Saturday.

The family event had the young and old enjoying the entertainment that included exhibitions, races, food and music.

The festival sought to combine all aspects of motoring in one fun-filled festival, the organisers said.

The cars which battled it out for first place featured the immensely popular G&H Transport Extreme SuperCars, among them Ferraris, Porsches, the Lotus, BMWs and Mercedes-Benzes.

Reneilwe Matlhaela, on his first visit to the raceway, said he enjoyed how the event was family-focused.

“It has a chilled family vibe, there was not a lot of alcohol which was nice. It is something I would do again. I would recommend this to others. It exceeded my expectations.”

Fikile Molopyane said she visited the raceway for relaxation and to spend more time with her family.

“It is a family thing, we do this quiet often. My husband loves vintage cars, and as you can see there are really nice cars around.

Molopyane said safety at the raceway stood out for her.

“It is so peaceful, one is very comfortable when coming here, just beautiful cars and there is security in sight.

“When you come here you know you will be safe no matter what.”

Johannes Moloko, who had been attending various races at the circuit, said more black people could be part of the event.

“Black people think this type of sport is for white people, but the reality is, this is beautiful and anyone can be part of it. It is very diverse.

“We can make money out of this, only if we are willing to learn and develop love for the sport. We should lose that mentality that this sport was not for us.”

Moloko said it was more exciting when one understood racing.

“If you understand how prizes are won and the purpose of all of this, you will enjoy it more.

“Some of us even place bets. I used to be fascinated by fast cars and I have been coming here since 2004 … ”

He said that a lot had changed since he had first started attending events, including getting him and others used to the course of events, and also allowing them to know and understand the car models and the ins and outs of the event.
