Johannesburg - A strain of the bacteria that causes cholera has been found in floodwater and soil samples in Port Alfred's Medolino valley in the Eastern Cape, according to a report on Friday.

Rhodes University pharmaceutical biochemistry research scientist Roman Tandlich found vibrio cholerae among other bacteria in samples he took in November, The Herald Online reported.

He did the tests after residents concerned about polluted floodwater approached him.
