Indianapolis, Indiana – Tyson Gay's last chance to compete for the United States at the upcoming World Championships was exhausted Tuesday when he was left off the relay team.

Last month, Gay pulled out of US nationals in the preliminaries of the 100 metres with a hip injury. He also skipped the 200 metres.

Because he didn't run, Gay's only chance of competing at the World Championships was if he was picked for a relay team, but that didn't happen either.

The top four finishers in the 100 metres and 400 metre races at nationals are all awarded spots in the relay pool.

USA Track and Field also gave out 21 wild-card spots for eligibility for the relays.

The 13th Athletics World Championships are scheduled to begin August 27 in Daegu, South Korea. – Sapa-AFP
