Pretoria – Proteas wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock has been ruled out of the remainder of the Test series against the West Indies due to a left ankle injury, Cricket SA confirmed.

De Kock rolled over his ankle while warming up on the third morning of the first Test against the West Indies in Centurion on Friday.

CSA said the injury could take six to twelve weeks to heal, which meant that De Kock would also be ruled out of the T20

International and One Day International against the West Indies in January.

The injury also placed serious doubt over De Kock's availability for the World Cup starting in February, in Australia and New Zealand.

“Quinton was taken for an MRI scan late last night which revealed a lateral ligament tear of the left-ankle,” said Proteas team manager Mohammed Moosajee.

South Africa's first match of the World Cup is against Zimbabwe on February 15 at Seddon Park, in Hamilton.

“In terms of the World Cup, our first match of the tournament is in eight weeks, which hopefully affords a sufficient recovery period.” – Sapa
