Proteas captain Faf du Plessis has won the toss and elected to bowl first in the Second Test against New Zealand at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.

The South Africans kept faith with an unchanged side that drew the rain-affected First Test in Dunedin, while the Black Caps made a number of changes.

There is a debutant in Neil Broom, who replaces the injured Ross Taylor, while Tim Southee comes in for Trent Boult, who is also battling with his fitness. The final change sees left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner missing out to seam-bowling all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme.

Play will start at midnight South African time on Thursday.
