CAPE TOWN – Young cricketers will get an exciting chance to experience a virtual reality batting dome from Gary Kirsten Cricket at the Cape Argus SportShow this weekend at Sandringham.

Ryan van Niekerk, coaching director at Gary Kirsten Cricket, said young cricketers will get to test their skills in the batting dome, and also see if their bowling matches up against the speed gun.

“We will have a virtual reality batting dome, allowing a batting simulation for boys and girls will who get to have a hit. It will be virtual reality fun inside a dome.

“The batting simulator is something that is new and there aren’t a lot of them in the cricket entrainment space. Young kids will have a virtual bowler running towards them and then when he releases, a ball will be coming out at them from the screen.

“We will also have a speed gun, next to a batting dome, which is a fun interactive way for young kids to find out how fast they bowl.”

Van Niekerk said that all kids need to do is to sign up at their set-up at the SportShow, then each person will get to face six deliveries and bowl three deliveries too.

“There are always new ways for people to be a part of cricket and growing the entertainment of cricket. We wanted to bring a fun aspect to the game,” he said.

“We’d love to create an aspect where kids can have fun and our coaches will also be there who can offer advice on batting and bowling. We hope to create a connection with young kids and see them go forward with the sport.”

Tickets for the event are available at the SportShow site ( www.sportshow.co.za) as well as at Computicket. Gates are open 9am – 6pm throughout the weekend. Entrance cost R150 (adults), R80 (children) and R200 for a weekend pass. Toddlers under 3 enter free.
