Paris - Race coach Bobby Julich has left Team Sky after admitting taking a banned substance during his career as a professional rider, the British cycling team said on Thursday.

“Bobby has shown courage in admitting to the errors he made long before his time with Team Sky. We understand that this is a difficult step for him,” team director Dave Brailsford said in a statement on the team website (www.teamsky.com).

American Julich, who retired from cycling in 2008, had been a coach at Team Sky since 2011.

In the wake of the Lance Armstrong doping scandal, Team Sky asked every member of the team to sign up to a written policy saying they have no past or present involvement with doping. - Reuters
